Bayonne, United States - September 16, 2020 /PressCable/ —

A new competition called Rethink Bayonne Design has been launched by Rethink Urban Design. The virtual event lasts for two months and aims to bring the community together to inspire a new vision for Bayonne, NJ. Residents have been mainly left out of the urban planning conversation for years as the city is having its biggest boon. The company hopes to bring artists, architects, and sustainable development leaders together to find new housing solutions and make them available for property owners at little to no cost to them.

The newly launched competition is part of the Rethink Urban Design platform, which provides a creative outlet for people to potentially earn revenue by partnering with the organizers to make their designs available for sale. The platform offers this by taking an existing design and applying it to a lot of land so the idea can be realized.

Rethink Urban Design says that aside from the social media platform Pinterest, people are unable to visualize the future home designs they want to see. The company adds that many old homes are not properly taken care of and new designs do not have the visibility required to be implemented.

But the platform seeks to overcome this problem by providing a valid place for designers to gain the visibility they require. Whether people design as a hobby, produce side ideas separate to their work, or have a senior project in mind, there is space for all ideas.

It says sustainable housing solutions should be tools that solve important housing issues including the fact many homes are outdated with the average home being 70 years old, most homes offer limited parking options and lack driveways, which can make transport storage difficult.

In addition, it says many housing options are socially non-inclusive meaning existing structures do not reflect or enable the social habits of people today. Furthermore, housing tends to be energy inefficient.

A spokesperson said: “Our event will feature at least three full days of ceremonies, keynote speakers, and various ways to interact with the participants all streamed to the public using a combination of Facebook, YouTube, and Twitch depending on the viewing experience desired. Viewers will be able to tune in via Facebook, Youtube, Twitch, and other online sources. Gamers with VR enabled devices will be able to tune in in 3D to view the designed spaces in ways not yet imaginable. Ultimately this allows consumers to give feedback as fast as possible.”

“Participants may join with a team or use our Slack channels to find a team to work with,” they added.
