MADRID — Thousands of Atletico Madrid fans took to the streets of the Spanish capital to celebrate the team's third Europa League title.

Fans began heading to the Fountain of Neptune — the club's traditional celebration spot — not long after the team defeated Marseille 3-0 in the final late Wednesday in Lyon.

Fans lit flares and chanted at the plaza through the early hours of Thursday.

The club is setting up official celebrations for Friday. The team is expected to parade through the central city before returning to the Fountain of Neptune.

Atletico also won the competition in 2010 and 2012.
