Denton, TX — Children in the U.S., numbering in the thousands, write to Santa every year at Christmas. Regardless of if everyone believes in the man in the red suit, these children do, and that’s what matters to the United States Postal Service. As a direct result, “Operation Santa” was started over a century ago, and Pack ‘N’ Mail, a local shipping store in Denton, TX is sharing all the info surrounding the program to make sure their community can join in on the holiday magic every year!

As reported by the USPS, “Operation Santa started more than 109 years ago when the Postal Service began receiving letters to Santa from kids across the country. However, until 1912, Postmaster General Frank Hitchcock authorized local Postmasters to allow postal employees and customers to respond to the letters. That simple act of kindness has led to a very successful holiday program benefitting deserving kids and families throughout the United States.” For anyone wondering how the program works, there are three steps:

First, children write their letters to Santa telling him what they wish for, and their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) put the letter in an envelope with the following included on the outside: Return address info (required), Santa’s workshop address (123 Elf Road at the North Pole with the zip code, 88888), A postage stamp.

Once the required elements are complete, the letter can be sent on or after November 1st and must be postmarked on or before December 19th.

Second, the USPS sorts the letters into one of two categories (individuals or families), scans the letters, and posts them to www.uspsoperationsanta.com with all personal info redacted for security purposes. Charitable individuals or businesses who have created an Operation Santa account and have been verified can then “adopt” a letter. Unfortunately, not all letters are adopted, so it is encouraged that every letter is as legible as possible and addressed correctly.

Lastly, once a letter(s) is adopted, the wish-list item(s) are shopped for, wrapped, and then shipped from a participating location before or on December 19th. The packages are sent “on behalf of the North Pole,” and the children are delighted to find that their holiday wishes came true.

Pack ‘N’ Mail has been tirelessly serving the local community since 1994 with a dedicated team of professionally trained shipping experts and offers an assortment of products and services from postage stamps to international shipping.
