Tigers starter eager to enjoy 'adrenaline rush' of 1st KBO postseason game

GWANGJU — It has been seven years since right-hander Adam Oller last played in a postseason game, and it came in the U.S. minor leagues. Now pitching for the Kia Tigers in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), Oller is set to make his Korean postseason debut Sunday afternoon against the LG Twins in Game 2 of the best-of-five first round. While speaking with Yonhap News Agency on Saturday, Oller was trying to soak in the experience. "I am excited. I think it is going to be a lot of fun. Obviously, I am seeing all the stuff getting set up," Oller said, as he looked around the stands at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field in the southwestern of Gwangju, with postseason banners and team flags being brought out by cheerleaders. "It seems like it is going to be a very large spectacle. The way I look at it is I am trying to treat it as any other game. At the end of the day, you still got to throw well and you still got to win. But with that being said, I am going to enjoy the adrenaline rush of all the fans and everything." Oller joined the Tigers in 2025, a year after they won the Korean Series tit

Choi Hye-jin blows late lead, settles for 2nd place in LPGA event in Shanghai

On the verge of claiming her maiden LPGA Tour victory, Choi Hye-jin settled for a runner-up finish after frittering away a late lead in Shanghai on Sunday. Choi ended up in second place at Buick LPGA Shanghai at Sheshan Golf Club in Shanghai, after shooting one-under 71 in the final round for a four-round total of 10-under 278. Yin Ruoning of China won on her home soil at 11-under, after carding a four-under 68 on Sunday. Choi, who joined the LPGA Tour in 2022 after collecting 11 victories in her native South Korea from 2017 to 2020, was going for her first LPGA title in her 124th start. She instead took her fifth career runner-up finish. Prior to this tournament, Choi had earned just over $7.2 million in her LPGA career, the most by a player without a victory. At nine-under through three rounds, Choi had a one-shot lead over fellow Korean Amy Yang entering Sunday. This was Choi's fifth time with at least a share of the lead after 54 holes. Choi birdied the fourth hole to move to 10-under and Yang's shaky start, with two bogeys and a birdie over her first four holes, gave Choi a three-sho

Tigers beat Twins to take stranglehold in KBO postseason series

GWANGJU — The offense exploded for five runs in the opening frame and starter Adam Oller worked six solid innings, as the Kia Tigers defeated the LG Twins 6-3 for their second straight postseason victory. After emerging victorious in a game played amid intermittent showers at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field in the southwestern city of Gwangju, the Tigers are now a win away from taking this best-of-five series in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason. The series will move to the Twins' home in Seoul, Jamsil Baseball Stadium, and will resume with Game 3 at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. If the Twins lose, it will be the final game played at Jamsil, a 44-year-old stadium set for demolition after this season. Since this round was added to the postseason in 1989, only twice has a team rallied to take the series after dropping the first two games: the 2010 and 2013 Doosan Bears.

Tigers ace Oller makes strong KBO postseason debut

JEONNAM-GWANGJU SPECIAL METROPOLITAN CITY — Kia Tigers starting pitcher Adam Oller made his first South Korean postseason game a memorable one Sunday. The American right-hander limited the LG Twins to two runs on six hits in six innings while striking out eight, helping the Tigers prevail 6-3 in Game 2 of the teams' best-of-five series in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason. In the regular season, Oller finished second in the KBO with a 3.13 ERA and fourth with 180 strikeouts. And he picked up where he left off in his first KBO postseason outing. After Oller worked a clean top of the first inning, his teammates staked him to a 5-0 lead in the bottom first — knocking out Oller's counterpart, Im Chan-kyu, with six hits, including three doubles. After sitting on the bench for several minutes, Oller came back out and struck out two in a perfect second inning. The Tigers' bats cooled off after that first inning and the Twins tried to creep back into the contest. But Oller kept wiggling his way out of jams, while also getting some help from his defense.
